Vice President Faisal Naseem has stressed on the importance of connecting research work with nation-building.
The vice president made this remark during his speech at the ceremony held to inaugurate the "Theveli International Conference 2022”, on Monday.
Taking the podium at the ceremony, VP Naseem shed light on the significance of intertwining research with nation-building, as politics and policies backed by proper scientific research yields better results.
Shedding light on how research contributes to national development, VP Naseem noted that it also helps in decision-making and in seeking ways to address challenges faced by the people.
Further, he stated that research helps solve long-standing issues like poverty, unemployment and inequality, and also helps to build economies, industries and societies.
With this said, VP Naseem noted that research helps the people understand the complex science that runs the world and helps the communities across the world, make informed decisions.
VP Naseem said that research is “paramount” to reach meaningful development, without which developmental efforts will be “baseless”, and added that the knowledge gained from research is what makes the foundations of nation-building efforts.
Research has also paved the way for a more civilized society and equip the society with the “knowledge” and “tools” to move forward and to learn more so that the society can do “more”.
VP Naseem went on to express hope of hearing solutions at the conference which governments worldwide may use to improve and elevate their policies and went on to share his hopes that the discussions at the conference will assist in developing innovative solutions required for nation-building and enhancing the quality of life.
Papers will be presented at the conference on a broad spectrum of issues ranging from technical topics such as housing and infrastructure, computers and technology, health and medicine, gender and human rights, history and culture, as well as journalism and social media.
The fifth edition of the two-day conference was organized by the Research Development Office of the Maldives National University (MNU).
The conference expected to be attended by about 200 participants, is held on the theme “research for nation building.”
The conference will be held from August 22 – 23 and will feature four keynote speeches and more than 70 presentations.
