Maldives Police Service (MPS) has forwarded the cases raised against five expatriates in connection to the murder of Ismail Umar, to Prosecutor General's (PG) Office for prosecution.

Police media official reported that the investigation has been completed and the cases were forwarded to PG on Sunday.

The 54-year old Ismail Umar was first discovered murdered on June 16th. Six expatriates had been arrested in connection to the murder.

The first arrestee was Suman Miah (27 years old), a fellow worker at the ice plant in Ihavandhoo island. Miah had confessed to the murder. Later on the knife used in the assault and the clothes Miah was wearing at the time of murder were discovered.

Police said the case was first reported a little after 4pm on June 16th. Officers of Ihavandhoo Police Station discovered blood on the scene. Ismail's body was stashed in the ice processing unit.

The murder prompted the Council to issue rigid strict guidelines on expatriates in the island, which was later reversed.
