Two more suspects have been arrested in connection to the brutal murder of Mohamed Anas.
Media officer at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that two suspects were arrested from a house called Dhimishq, in the Maafannu ward of the capital Malé City, on Thursday evening.
"Maafannu Dhimishq was searched under a court order around 4:35pm today [Thursday], where a 23-year-old male and a minor [also male] were apprehended," said police.
25-year-old Anas, native to Meedhoo island of Raa atoll, was stabbed to death by a group of masked assailants on the 31st of July. Anas who worked on a speedboat was killed not too long after he arrived in Malé that night.
Police had previously revealed that 12 suspects had been taken into custody over Anas' murder, including those that were actively involved in his murder. While they were arrested from a house in the capital city as well, police have not revealed their details. Five of them have since been released.
On Wednesday, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef met with his father "to inform him about the latest findings" in the investigation.
While police are yet to reveal any further information on the investigation, President Abdulla Yameen had addressed Anas' murder during a rally, saying that Anas had been killed "by mistake because of the t-shirt he had been wearing".
However, CCTV footage from Litus Service Center, where the attack took place, show the attackers pursuing him before stabbing him to death.
