A tourist has tested positive for the global Covid-19 pandemic for the first time since Maldives reopened its borders for international travel on July 15.

The case was discovered on Monday.

As such, the case was reported from an American national who traveled to the island nation on a tourist visa, while he was on the resort. The tourist did not exhibit any symptoms of the virus when tested for the infection.

Authorities revealed that contact tracing is currently underway and that the isolation procedure will be carried out according to the set guidelines.

The tourist is staying at Cheval Blanc Randheli.

Within the first ten days since the island nation opened its borders for international travel, over 900 tourists had arrived.

Maldives closed its borders for tourism on March 27, following the surfacing of the pandemic in the island nation.

When borders where reopened months later, authorities had revealed that all tourist arrivals will not be tested. However, arrivals that show symptoms of the infection would be tested.
