Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to visit the Maldives

In addition to meeting with senior government officials to discuss enhancing international collaboration and developmental partnerships, the visit is expected to further solidify the 58-year-old diplomatic relationship and enduring friendship between the Maldives and Malaysia.

The President's Office has announced that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is set to undertake a state visit to the Maldives, following an invitation from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to arrive in the Maldives for the two-day official visit from September 14 to 15.
The invitation for the Malaysian Prime Minister to visit the Maldives was extended during President Muizzu’s official visit to Malaysia in April 2025. This will mark Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s first visit to the Maldives since assuming office in November 2022.
During this visit, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will meet with the President to hold official bilateral talks. These discussions will focus on existing diplomatic relations, enhancing cooperation in the international arena, and exploring new avenues for collaboration across various sectors. Furthermore, both leaders will preside over a ceremony to sign several key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
The President's Office has also stated that during the Malaysian Prime Minister's visit, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, Speaker of the People's Majlis Abdul Raheem Abdulla, and Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam will pay separate courtesy calls on the Prime Minister.
As the Maldives and Malaysia mark 58 years of formal diplomatic relations, the two nations continue to enjoy a robust partnership characterized by strong people-to-people ties, high-level engagements, and enduring cooperation across various developmental sectors.
