The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to propose Chief Magistrate of the Haa Dhaal atoll judicial administration, Mohamed Mausoom’s dismissal, at the People’s Majlis.
JSC launched an investigation into serious accusations against the Chief Magistrate involving bribery earlier, and Mausoom was suspended for a period of 60 days.
In a statement issued on Monday, JSC revealed that it has been proven through the commission’s investigations, that Haa Dhaal atoll judicial administration’s Chief Magistrate Mausoom had been involved in other transactions of bribery alongside having accepted bribe money to reach a verdict in another case investigated by the commission including the Hirimaradhoo Magistrate Court.
During investigations, JSC found that funds deposited to Mausoom’s bank account excluding salary and allowances, was acquired through influence and undue benefits.
Further, the allegations of sexual harassment against an employee have also been proven by JSC.
Deeming his actions to have been against the Maldives Judges Act as well as the disciplinary standards, JSC during a meeting on Saturday, decided to propose his dismissal at the People’s Majlis.
The commission has been probing cases including disciplinary issues with other judges from several courts as well, having dismissed some justices over disciplinary issues in the past.
