The family of Raudha Athif, who was found dead in her room in Bangladesh on March 29, has sought the help from Maldivian authorities after suspecting that someone else was using the model’s Instagram account.
According to Bangladesh’s The Daily Star, a family member had told them they had observed some irregularities from her Instagram account.
Citing her brother Rayyan Athif, The Daily Star's article, published on Tuesday, said that they “sought help from the Maldivian government after suspecting that someone else was using the Instagram profile of his sister”.
“At one point, the profile was deleted all together probably to hide evidence,” Rayyan had said.
Raudha's Instagram profile went missing on Monday afternoon.
The article noted that Raudha’s phone was with the Bangladeshi police, but that it was ‘inaccessible’ till Monday night.
Noting that the police has taken the phone of one of her classmates, The Daily Star reported that Raudha’s mother, Aminath Muharrimath has also made an allegation towards the same classmate.
She is to have alleged that Raudha was not as close with her anymore, something she found out after questioning Raudha on why she was studying alone.
“Normally Raudha used to study with her but one night she told me that she was studying alone. After I asked her what had happened, she told me that she does not trust her anymore,” said her mother.
Raudha’s mother further alleged that the girl had “mixed some sleeping pills with Raudha’s juice”.
While the accused denies the allegation, adding she does not believe Raudha would have said anything like that to anyone, Inspector Rashidhul Islam said that her phone has not been seized, rather that they were ‘examining it”.
The Shah Makhdhum police had been investigating the case, before it was transferred to the Detective Branch of Rajshahi Metropolitan Department.
Raudha’s mother further noted that the same girl was the one who found Raudha hanging from the ceiling, while inspector Rashidul revealed that she had also accompanied Raudha to the hospital the night before she was found dead.
Two senior officials from the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Chief Superintendent Mohamed Riyaz and Chief Inspector Ahmed Ali, travelled to Rajshahi on Monday, to assist the Detective Branch in their investigation.
While the initial autopsy report ruled the death a suicide, her family refuted the report, saying Raudha has no reason to commit suicide.
The 21-year-old was studying medicine in Islami Bank Medical College, while making waves as a model internationally.
In October 2016, she became the first and only Maldivian to be featured on the cover of Vogue Magazine.
