Two more Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in Maamendhoo island of Gaafu Alif atoll.
The first case was reported from the island on Thursday, a 28-year-old man under home quarantine.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the matter, Gaafu Alif atoll Council President Ahmed Fuad said that the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed two additional cases in the island. He added that the two that tested positive later, had been under quarantine with the individual that tested positive for the virus earlier this week.
Further contact tracing is being conducted.
Covid-19 taskforce’s spokesperson, Mohamed Mabrook Aziz shared details of the case at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC)’s nightly press conference on Thursday.
Mabrook said that the man arrived in the capital from Maamendhoo on May 31, accompanying a person who required medical treatment.
He was tested for Covid-19 on June 6, and the results had come back negative.
While the man is to have stayed in a guesthouse in the capital with two family members, he is to have travelled back to Maamendhoo with the two on June 13. They are to have travelled via flight through Kooddoo, and Mabrook said that the rest of the passengers on the flight had travelled to Gemanafushi island in the same atoll.
He is to have exhibited Covid-19 like symptoms and informed authorities on June 14, and his samples were taken the same day which arrived in the capital city on June 15; the test results came back positive on Thursday.
