CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Mohamed Junaid has resigned from the post.

Junaid told RaajjeMV that he resigned "to give more time and attention to his own business."

He said that he has, on Tuesday, sent his resignation letter to the President's Office and the Privatization and Corporatization Board.

While Junaid has resigned from the post, he had been in hot waters with the deputy parliamentary group leader of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Riyaz Rasheed over comments made about Rasheed's company, Meridium Service Pvt. Ltd.

Junaid had claimed that Meridium was assigned to supply diesel to MPL without a bidding process, and that MPL was suffering millions in losses due to Meridium.

Junaid is a close ally of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen.
