No Covid-19 cases detected in prisons due to stringent measures in place

There were no Covid-19 cases detected in the prisons due to the stringent measures in place.
Commissioner of Prisons, Ahmed Mohamed highlighted this during his message to extend Eid Al-Fitr greetings to the people, on Sunday.
He said that a number of measures were put in place in the prisons as soon a Covid-19 case was confirmed in the country, for the safety of both the prisoners and guards of the Maldives Correctional Services (MCS).
He further said that the jails were placed on alert following the lockdown on the greater Malé region, and that MCS’s services were made online from that point onward. He added that the guards at the prisons were also on lockdown following the detection of a Covid-19 community spread.
Noting that various awareness sessions were held with all relevant institutions, Ahmed stressed that their biggest priority was the safety of the prisoners and guards.
While there are four prisons under MCS, random samples were collected for testing from all of them. All samples taken from three of these areas tested negative, and the results from Hulhumalé Prison are pending.
