President Muizzu says Ras Male' will be inhabited exclusively by Maldivian citizens and Arab Muslims
20 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | އަންގާރަ 15:05President Muizzu has announced that Israeli citizens will be legally barred from purchasing land or apartments in Ras Male', asserting that the development is reserved exclusively for Maldivians and members of the Arab-Islamic community. However, public concern persists due to ambiguous remarks from the head of the development firm and the potential for Israelis to bypass these restrictions by utilizing secondary foreign passports.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that Ras Male' will be inhabited exclusively by Maldivian citizens and Arab Muslims.
President Muizzu made these remarks while speaking on the President's Office podcast, "The Pulse." He noted that, currently, interest in purchasing property in Ras Male' is predominantly coming from individuals in Middle Eastern Arab nations.
President Muizzu has stated that no Israeli citizen will be permitted to acquire any property or space within Ras Male'.
I must emphasize that the Maldivian people and Arabs are one; we are Arab Muslims here. Therefore, there is absolutely no possibility for Israeli citizens to acquire any property or land here, as it will be legally prohibited. These claims being made are entirely baseless.Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
President Muizzu has dismissed claims that Israeli citizens will be allowed to reside in Ras Male', characterizing such reports as politically motivated fabrications. He further described these allegations as fundamentally illogical and baseless.
Despite President Muizzu's assurances, many citizens are expressing concern that Israeli nationals could still purchase property in Ras Male' by utilizing dual citizenship and alternative passports.
Public concern has also intensified following remarks made by Mohamed Alabbar, the head of Eagle Hills—the company granted a significant portion of Ras Male'—regarding his involvement in the post-war reconstruction of Gaza.
When asked whether Emaar Properties would contribute to reconstruction projects in Gaza, which has been devastated by Israeli attacks, Alabbar responded bluntly. He stated that he is not a philanthropist and emphasized that every nation must resolve its own problems independently.
