The Swimming Association of Maldives has once again postponed their fourth elections.

The association’s decision was delayed in light of the current Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) situation across the Maldives, and to ensure the government’s instructions to stay indoors during a time a lockdown has been declared across the Greater Malé Region, is followed by the people.

It comes as part of the stringent measures being implemented by the government in accordance with health experts’ recommendations upon the declaration of a state of public health emergency on 12 March.

Further, the association has pledged its full cooperation and support to the government’s Covid-19 response efforts and revealed that a date set for the elections will be announced at a later date.

Despite the delay, the association has assured that the procedures related to the elections will still remain the same.

The elections were scheduled to be held earlier in March and was postponed the first time round to 11 April, after which it has been delayed again.

The Greater Malé Region is currently under lockdown for a fortnight, following the emergence of the first ever community transmission in the country in the capital city a few days back. Since then, 15 cases have emerged in Malé and the authorities are taking stringent measures to ensure it is contained.
