President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed hosted a special iftar for the children of Kudakudhinge Hiya, on Sunday.
The iftar was organized by the First Lady, at Mulee-aage.
The residential care facility, Kudakudhinge Hiya or Children’s Home, was officially opened on May 11, 2006. It is located in the fifth ward of the capital Malé City, Villimalé.
The facility accommodates 45 children, between the ages of 13 to 19, through a joint venture between the gender ministry.
It aims to provide “a safe, secure and enabling environment for vulnerable children who have no other means of primary care.”
Due to the increased number of children in need of care, a second facility- Amaan Hiya- was opened; it also accommodates children between 13 and 18 years. A third one was opened in Hulhumalé in 2016, Fiyavathi, where children below the age of 13 are accommodated.
