Hassan Zihan, a former Deputy Minister of the current administration, has been arrested for allegedly inciting arson attacks against the President’s Office, the People’s Majlis, and the Supreme Court.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Shiyam informed RaajjeMV that the individual has been arrested under a court order. The arrest follows a social media post in which the suspect allegedly incited arson attacks against the President's Office, the People's Majlis, and the Supreme Court.
In a Facebook post sharing an Al Jazeera report regarding protesters setting fire to the Supreme Court of Albania during anti-government demonstrations, Zihan questioned why "we are unable to set fire" to the three branches of the state, adding that doing so would be "fun."
Approximately one hour later, he deleted the post.
Zihan, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy, served as a First Lieutenant in the Maldives National Defence Force. However, he was dismissed from military service during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Following this, he was appointed as a Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Transport under the current administration. Zihan was removed from that post in 2024.
