Two Chikungunya-stricken children in serious condition

IGHMH’s pediatrician Ahmed Faisal said that their brains have become infected

Two children stricken with Chikungunya are being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) after they became seriously ill.

IGHMH’s pediatrician Ahmed Faisal said that their brains have become infected with the disease.

In a tweet on Saturday, Dr Faisal asked that everyone keep them in their prayers and to "get rid of mosquito breeding sites."

According to the data, the last Chikungunya outbreak was in 2006 and although such cases have been sparsely reported, 864 Chikungunya cases have been reported since January this year, states the Health Protection Agency.

Reported cases of Chikungunya have also increased in April compared to March.
