Ras Male' Project: “We Won’t Let Muizzu and Muththalib Enrich Themselves by Giving Away the Maldivian State to Zionists”

Despite the President’s assurances that the project will benefit the nation, widespread fears persist that the agreement could lead to the de facto permanent loss of Maldivian land to foreign interests, prompting urgent calls for the government to disclose the full details of the deal.

Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdulla has stated that Maldivians will not stand by and watch as the nation's land, seas, and the entire state are permanently gifted to Zionists to enrich the personal wealth of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and his Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib.
Concerns are being raised across various platforms regarding the current status of the Ras Male' project, which has been touted as one of the most significant initiatives launched by President Muizzu's administration to provide a permanent solution to the Maldives' housing crisis and create new economic opportunities.
In a post on X, Imran alleged that the project is designed to facilitate the permanent transfer of Maldivian land, sea, and the entire state to Zionists, solely to increase the personal wealth of President Muizzu and Minister Muththalib.
With the grace of Almighty Allah, we shall save this Maldivian nation! The Maldivian people will not stand by and watch as President Muizzu and his Minister, Muththalib, permanently hand over Maldivian land, seas, and the entire state to Zionists simply to increase their own personal wealth.Imran Abdulla
Reiterating his previous concerns regarding the Ras Male' project, Imran stated that the consequences of betraying the religion and the nation would be very bitter for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu himself.
In light of these unfolding uncertainties, Imran emphasized that the time has come once again for the Maldivian people to set aside political differences and rise in defense of the nation. He noted that throughout the Maldives' long history, whenever challenges have been posed to the country's independence and sovereignty, the Maldivian people have consistently stood up to confront those threats and protect the nation.
In a sudden development, an agreement has been signed to lease a significant portion of the Ras Male' project to Eagle Hills for a period of 99 years.
Addressing the opposition's criticism regarding the Ras Male' project, President Muizzu stated that such rhetoric surfaces whenever a project of national benefit is underway. The President asserted that he would not allow any obstacles to hinder the project's progress. He further guaranteed that no foreign entity would be granted ownership of Maldivian land under this initiative.
However, the primary concern for the opposition and the public is that the land is being leased to Eagle Hills for a 99-year term, under conditions where the lease period resets upon the sale or inheritance of the property. Consequently, this is perceived as an arrangement that could effectively transition into an indefinite, permanent tenure. There are fears that this would result in a vast area of 5.2 million square meters of Maldivian land falling under permanent foreign ownership. Many argue that this poses a significant threat to the national security and sovereignty of the Maldives. Furthermore, the public is demanding full transparency and the disclosure of details regarding this opaque deal.
