First thing that needs to be done is reforming MIRA: Opposition Presidential candidate
Solih travelled to Eydhafushi on Sunday as part of his Baa atoll tour
He pledged to enhance education system of the island and provide housing units for island residents
'MIRA must not be allowed to make up own regulations and slap huge fines on small businesses'

Opposition coalition’s presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the first thing that needs to be done is reform the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

During his trip to B. Eydhafushi on Sunday, Solih said that the current administration of President Abdulla Yameen has completely disheveled the tax system.

As such, Solih said that small businesses are facing losses because of MIRA and that the authority must not be a place feared by businessmen. He added that a government run by the opposition will abolish this issue.

Solih added that the authority cannot make up their own regulations and keep on slapping fines on small businesses.

He also said that his administration will allow the State Trading Organization (STO) to conduct only the most essential businesses.

Solih highlighted that his policy would be to let citizens proceed with their businesses without the government intruding in them.

Speaking of his pledges to Eydhafushi residents, Solih stated that the opposition coalition will work to enhance the island’s education system by a large scale and also pledged to provide housing units to residents after reclaiming 27 hectares of land in the island.

Highlighting that residents of Eydhafushi will give much thought before casting their votes, Solih said that the tyranny of President Yameen's administration is far beyond the breaking point.

The opposition presidential candidate expressed confidence that he will defeat President Yameen in the approaching Presidential Election by a wide margin.
