Maldives-Malaysia Relations Reach New Heights: Currency Swap Expedited and Cooperation Expanded Across Multiple Sectors

Furthermore, the Malaysian Prime Minister has assured full cooperation and support for the Maldives across the educational, social, and environmental sectors.

In a move to elevate the long-standing bilateral relations between the Maldives and Malaysia to new heights, the Malaysian government has decided to fast-track the implementation of a proposed currency swap agreement through an expedited process.
This was revealed during an official banquet hosted by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the First Lady in honor of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Prime Minister Anwar stated that he has already instructed the Governor of Malaysia's Central Bank to expedite the finalization of the currency swap agreement between the two nations.
Speaking at the banquet, the Prime Minister of Malaysia highly commended President Dr. Muizzu’s steadfast leadership and the exemplary role the Maldives has played on the international stage in advocating for justice before major global powers. Furthermore, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of both nations working together to advocate and raise their voices globally regarding environmental issues and the challenges of climate change.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced that the "Joint Commission" meeting, originally scheduled for next year to further strengthen bilateral ties, will be brought forward and held in Malaysia before the end of this year.
Highlighting social and developmental sectors, the Prime Minister assured that the Maldives would receive Malaysia's full cooperation in enhancing education, promoting mental health, and providing support for persons with disabilities. He also emphasized that while advancing alongside rapidly evolving modern technology, it remains crucial to uphold noble Islamic principles and values.
During the meeting, the Malaysian Prime Minister expressed his sincere gratitude to the President, the First Lady, and the Government of Maldives for the warm and gracious hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
