Maldives Customs Service has announced the seizure of over 3.2 kilograms of narcotics attempted to be smuggled into the country via postal mail.
In a post on X on Tuesday night, Maldives Customs Service stated that the substances were seized during a routine inspection of a package imported via post. Officials discovered the contraband after further examination of the shipment, which had been flagged on suspicion of containing narcotics.
Maldives Customs Service has announced the seizure of 3,252 grams of cannabis during an attempted smuggling operation into the country. The authorities confirmed that the narcotics were confiscated on August 15. However, Customs has not disclosed any further details regarding the ongoing investigation.
There have been several previous instances of large quantities of narcotics being smuggled into the country via the postal service. In such cases, individuals arriving to collect the packages have been arrested and subsequently sentenced to prison terms.
