Foreigner arrested for possession of alcohol requests court to expedite his deportation

While investigators have already gathered evidence in the case, the suspect requested during his remand hearing to be deported from the Maldives as soon as possible, and police are continuing their investigation into the matter.

A Bangladeshi man arrested by police on allegations of alcohol possession and trafficking has requested to be deported from the Maldives as soon as possible.
A 31-year-old Bangladeshi national has been arrested in connection with this case.
When the individual was brought before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered him to be detained for 15 days for the safety and security of the community. Under this court order, his detention period will expire on August 16, 2024.
During the court hearing held to extend his remand, he stated that he wished to leave the Maldives as soon as possible and requested to be deported.
According to the court order, sufficient evidence has been presented to support the allegations against the suspect. This evidence includes reports prepared by the officers who attended the scene, police statements, the suspect's own statement, a sponsor letter, and forensic analysis reports of the seized items.
Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
