Man Remanded After Alleged Drug Retrieval Attempt

Police have arrested a woman for smuggling drugs into the Maldives concealed between two sanitary pads, along with a man who arrived to collect the shipment. The man has since been remanded in custody pending the conclusion of his trial.

Authorities have arrested a 32-year-old woman and a man, both residents of Malé, in connection with the case.

While the woman remains in police custody, the man associated with her was arrested during a controlled delivery operation conducted by the police.

According to the court order, the woman smuggled the narcotics under the instructions of another individual. She transported the illicit substances and placed them in the storage compartment of a motorcycle parked at the Hulhumale MPL Tower parking zone for pickup. During the police operation, the male suspect was apprehended at the moment he approached the motorcycle to retrieve the items.

When questioned by the police regarding this case, the suspect remained silent and refused to provide any information concerning the suspected narcotics found in his possession. However, according to the court order, the police conducted a search of his apartment with his consent. During the search, additional narcotics were discovered inside the pocket of a shirt kept in a wardrobe within his bedroom.

When the male suspect arrested in connection with this case was produced before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered him to be remanded in custody pending the conclusion of his trial. The woman involved in the case also remains in police custody.

Police are conducting a further investigation into the matter.
