President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has acknowledged that the development of the racing track, initiated by the government in response to the requests of numerous youths, is not progressing at the desired pace.

President Muizzu has pledged to develop a dedicated racing track for youth by reclaiming land adjacent to the highway connecting Malé and Hulhumalé. Speaking about the project on the President’s Office’s "The Pulse" podcast, President Muizzu stated that while the facility is intended to be an international-standard racing track, progress has not met expectations. He noted that the project is currently facing a six-month delay in completion.

The President attributed the project delays to challenges in land reclamation for the track area and difficulties in procuring the materials required for coastal protection to prevent erosion. He stated that these obstacles were a direct result of the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

Land reclamation efforts have faced delays primarily due to challenges in procuring essential materials, specifically the components required for shore protection. However, these works are expected to gain significant momentum in the coming days. The broader delays across various projects over the past six months were largely triggered by the conflict in the Middle East, which impacted fiscal spending and increased fuel costs. Despite these setbacks, the situation is now improving, and project progress is successfully getting back on track.

While President Muizzu has acknowledged the suspension of work on the racing track, the administration is facing mounting public criticism over the stalling of numerous projects initiated across the country by the previous MDP government. Many have questioned why these projects remain incomplete, with critics arguing that the work could have been finalized long before the onset of the conflict in the Middle East. Concerns have also been raised regarding the government's continued use of various justifications for the ongoing delays.

In the latest episode of the President’s Office podcast "The Pulse," aired on Friday, President Muizzu focused primarily on the challenges facing the youth and the government's ongoing efforts to empower them. However, a growing number of young people have expressed concern that many opportunities previously available to them have diminished since President Muizzu took office. Specifically, there is a widespread perception among the youth that prospects for employment, education, and professional advancement across various sectors have significantly narrowed. These young individuals argue that current government policies have left them with few alternatives, leading to a fading sense of hope for their future.
