President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the current administration is working to develop unprecedented opportunities for youth sports, aimed at building a fit and healthy society.
President Muizzu emphasized that youth empowerment remains a top priority for the government. He further expressed confidence that by overcoming the existing challenges, the ongoing efforts in this area will yield positive and tangible results.
The President made these remarks during the fifth episode of "The Pulse," a podcast series produced by the President's Office.
Speaking on Friday's podcast, the President emphasized that the youth are the most vital stakeholders in the government's nation-building efforts, highlighting ongoing initiatives to empower them through economic and educational opportunities. In particular, he shared updates on the administration's unprecedented efforts to develop sports facilities, aimed at fostering a fit and healthy society. The President noted that rather than being centralized in the capital, Malé, these projects are being implemented across the entire country. He further assured that these initiatives are on track to be successfully completed by the first quarter of 2028.
Highlighting that mental well-being is as integral to life as physical health, the President stated that comprehensive efforts are currently underway to ensure the mental wellness of the nation's youth.
In his remarks, the President highlighted several key measures being taken by the government to empower the youth by increasing their participation in the private sector and facilitating avenues for them to earn a sustainable income. He specifically touched upon the government's introduction of new loan schemes designed to enhance youth involvement in business, as well as broader efforts to clear the path for young people to overcome existing obstacles and challenges to their professional advancement. The President also addressed the challenges posed to the youth by the presence of undocumented immigrants in the Maldives, emphasizing the critical importance of a collective effort to resolve this issue.
The President highlighted ongoing efforts to achieve the government's target of ensuring the creative economy contributes at least 15 percent of the Maldives' Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.
The President stated that the government's vision is to guide the public toward beneficial opportunities and facilitate their progress. In this regard, he noted that efforts to find a permanent solution to the issue of undocumented migrants are nearing completion. He further highlighted that the administration's priorities include prioritizing Maldivians in employment and entrepreneurship, fostering talent across various sectors, and ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary academic and vocational skills to succeed in their chosen paths. President Muizzu expressed his confidence that these initiatives will yield positive results for the nation.
