The Kulhudhuffushi City Council has expressed deep concern over the failure of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration to deliver on its promises to upgrade Kulhudhuffushi Hospital into a tertiary-level facility and construct a new hospital building.
According to information shared by the Council with RaajjeTV, although land has been allocated for the proposed ten-story building, no physical progress has been made beyond the installation of an emergency door.
The Council further highlighted that the hospital's governance has shifted from an independent board to being directly under the Ministry of Health following the change in administration. This transition, they claim, has turned routine operations into a significant burden, complicating administrative processes.
Regarding medical services, the Council noted that basic necessities, such as essential medications and injections, have become increasingly difficult to source. They questioned the reality of the development envisioned by President Muizzu, given the current deteriorating state of affairs.
In addition to hospital services, the Council pointed out the unreliability of the RTL ferry service, which many patients rely on to travel for medical consultations. They noted that ferry trips are frequently cancelled even in mild weather conditions, adding to the growing grievances of the public.
Kulhudhuffushi Hospital plays a pivotal role in providing healthcare to the northern population. While the government has pledged to enhance its services, the lack of progress and delays in development projects have led to mounting public frustration.
As citizens continue to call for improved healthcare and the fulfillment of promised development projects, the City Council has urged the government to address these critical issues promptly.
