Construction of a new airport terminal was sole pledge made to Kulhudhuffushi during in first 14 weeks; to date, only visible progress is a foundation stone
The Kulhudhuffushi City Council has expressed concern over the delayed construction of the city's new airport terminal. Despite being a key pledge within President Muizzu’s first 100-day roadmap and having already reached the groundbreaking stage, the project—contracted to MACL—remains stalled, causing significant hardship for travelers and the general public.

The Kulhudhuffushi City Council has expressed concern over the suspension of work on the city's new airport terminal, the only pledge made for the city during the government's first 14 weeks. The project has reportedly come to a standstill following the foundation-laying ceremony.
This project represents the sole and most significant pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to the city within the first 100 days of his administration.
Kulhudhuffushi City Council has informed RaajjeTV that no practical work has commenced on the construction of the new airport terminal, despite a high-profile groundbreaking ceremony. The Council noted that following the ceremony, which was personally attended by the President, the only visible progress at the site to date remains the foundation stone laid during the event.

Noting the delays in the project, the Council stated that although the government had pledged to complete the work within its first 14 weeks, the foundation stone was only laid in August 2024, well after that deadline had passed.
As Kulhudhuffushi serves as a primary hub for healthcare and commerce for a large population in the northern Maldives, the City Council has stated that the current state of the airport is causing significant hardship for the public. The Council further noted that while numerous improvements are required to strengthen and upgrade airport services, there is currently no hope of these developments materializing given the present trajectory of affairs.
The lack of space and facilities at the airport terminal remains one of the primary grievances for the residents of Kulhudhuffushi City and travelers alike. The failure to fulfill the pledge to complete the terminal project within the government's first 100 days has led to prolonged delays, a matter that continues to cause significant concern for both the city council and the local community.
