Former Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated that if President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu seeks re-election in 2028, he will face a crushing defeat with less than five percent of the vote.
Speaking at an MDP rally held on Thursday night, Mariya Didi stated that President Muizzu is governing the country according to his own whims, acting as if the Maldives were his personal property.
Dr. Muizzu is acting as if the entire country is his personal property. I must state that securing a parliamentary majority or winning the presidency does not grant him ownership of this nation.Mariya Ahmed Didi
Mariya stated that every time the PNC ideology comes to power, it is characterized by efforts to enslave the Maldivian people and strip them of their rights. She further asserted that President Muizzu’s ongoing appointments to government positions are not out of goodwill toward the citizens, but are rather intended to keep them subservient through a state-funded salary.
Mariya stated that if President Muizzu contests the 2028 election, he will fail to secure even the level of support received by former President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik in the 2013 presidential race.
In my view, if Dr. Muizzu contests, he will secure an even smaller percentage of the vote than Dr. Waheed did. He is likely to face a defeat with less than five percent of the total vote.Mariya Ahmed Didi
Furthermore, Mariya stated that President Muizzu has failed to deliver on his mandates. She specifically highlighted that he has been unable to fulfill his primary campaign pledge of expelling Indian military personnel from the country.
