Health Minister Geela Ali has announced that the Alif Alif Thoddoo Hospital project, which has seen no progress to date, will be completed by next year.

Despite Minister Geela's remarks, no physical work has commenced on the hospital project to date. Consequently, residents are expressing skepticism over whether the project can be completed in time to begin providing services by next year.
On August 20, 2025, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met with the residents of Thoddoo and announced a decision to upgrade the ongoing 30-bed health center extension project into a full-scale 30-bed hospital. However, staff members at the health center have confirmed to RaajjeMV that no progress has been made on the project since the announcement.
Furthermore, in response to a question from MP Sameer regarding the commencement date for the construction of the Alif Alif Rasdhoo Hospital, Minister Geela stated that physical work on the project is scheduled to begin within this month.
The administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had initially decided to develop the Alif Alif Atoll Hospital with financial assistance from the Kuwait Fund. However, following the change in government, the project’s status became unclear. Subsequently, on August 16, 2024, the Ministry of Health contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to construct a new 50-bed hospital in Rasdhoo.
The project was awarded to MTCC at a total cost of MVR 185,571,402.42, with a completion timeline of 780 days.
