President assures legal reforms and infrastructure development to strengthen police service
The President highlighted the government's commitment to enhancing police welfare by announcing plans to construct a new police headquarters in Malé, modernize the Vaanee Training Centre, and provide dedicated housing for officers and their families. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has provided assurances that legal reforms and infrastructural developments will be implemented to strengthen the police institution.
President Muizzu made these remarks while officiating the ceremony held at the Social Centre on Sunday night to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service.
In his remarks at the ceremony, he highlighted the vital national service provided by the police as the country's primary enforcement authority in maintaining daily peace and stability. He further characterized the contributions of police officers and their families as a profound sacrifice for the nation.
The President highlighted that the Maldives Police Service, as the institution working most closely with the public, is making significant efforts to establish peace and security while steering society away from long-standing negative habits. He acknowledged that these efforts are being carried out amidst numerous challenges. However, he assured that he would take all necessary steps to ensure the delivery of satisfactory and comprehensive services that earn public trust. To this end, the President affirmed his commitment to facilitating essential advancements, whether through legislative reforms, modern infrastructure upgrades, or the development of human resources.
Furthermore, the President acknowledged the existing obstacles to service delivery and pledged to establish an additional service center and a state-of-the-art headquarters in the Greater Male' Area, where the most significant challenges currently persist. He also committed to upgrading the police training center in Dh. Vaanee into a modern, world-class facility. At the same time, the President highlighted that the government aims to complete ongoing infrastructure projects within the coming year to ensure police services can be provided from dedicated, police-owned facilities.
The President stated that the countless efforts undertaken by the police are initiatives that will bring meaningful and lasting change to society, as they are carried out with sincerity, goodwill, and a profound sense of patriotism.
In his remarks, President Muizzu affirmed that the government’s policy is to create expanded housing opportunities for police officers and their families in the coming days, assuring that he would deliver tangible results in this endeavor.
At the ceremony held to mark the 93rd anniversary of the Maldives Police Service, President Muizzu presented the President’s Color and the President’s Medal to distinguished officers. The President also presented commemorative plaques to long-serving personnel in recognition of their dedication. These honors were awarded to acknowledge their invaluable contributions, sincerity, and loyalty to both the nation and the Maldives Police Service over an extended period of service.
The Maldives Police Service marked its 93rd anniversary on March 29 of this year.
