Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed has announced that officers retiring after 25 years of service will be entitled to the same medical benefits as active-duty personnel.
The Commissioner of Police made these remarks while speaking at the official ceremony held Sunday night at the Social Centre to mark the 93rd anniversary of the police service. The Commissioner further stated that efforts will be made to revise the current limits used to calculate benefits for officers who retire with honor. He noted that, under the proposed changes, retirement benefits would be determined based on the actual duration of the officer's service.
"I assure you that as His Excellency the President takes the personal initiative to improve the overall welfare of the police and transform the service into a content and fulfilled institution, and as our Honorable Minister works toward this goal, I will remain steadfast in conveying your sentiments and concerns to the government," the Commissioner stated.
The Commissioner further stated that the President is taking the initiative to bring revolutionary advancements to the Maldives Police Service. These efforts encompass addressing housing challenges, enhancing educational and professional development, and modernizing the institution through technological upgrades, resource allocation, and infrastructural growth. He reaffirmed his commitment to working sincerely in the best interests of the police force.
Furthermore, gratitude was extended to the former Commissioner of Police, Brigadier (Retd.) Adam Zahir, for his extraordinary leadership and exemplary service in establishing the modern Maldives Police Service in 2004 and shaping the institution into its current form.
