Police: Only two of five containers lost from MPL barge recovered so far
Police and relevant authorities are currently conducting a search operation for several containers that fell overboard from a barge at the Malé Commercial Port during a period of severe weather. While only two containers have been recovered thus far, mariners traveling through the waters between Dhoonidhoo and Feydhoofinolhu are urged to exercise extreme caution. Although reports indicate the lost units were empty, the exact number of containers that fell into the sea remains unconfirmed.

Police have confirmed that only two out of the five containers that fell from a Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) barge have been located so far. The incident occurred while the barge was docked at the outer jetty of the Malé Commercial Harbor.
Police have urged vessels traveling between the islands of Dunidhoo and Feydhoofinolhu to exercise extreme caution following reports that several containers fell overboard from an MPL barge and are currently adrift. The incident was reported to the authorities at approximately 11:10 p.m. on Saturday.
Police stated on Sunday that a total of five containers fell overboard and drifted away during the incident, two of which have been located so far. Authorities are currently working to recover the remaining three containers.
While police reported that five containers fell overboard, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that only four containers were lost at sea. Consequently, the exact number of containers involved in the incident remains unclear.
According to reports, the containers that fell overboard were empty. The incident occurred during a period of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
