President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that restructuring state-owned enterprises to meet the highest standards and implementing pay harmonization are essential steps toward strengthening the economy and fostering a professional work ethic.

He made these remarks while responding to questions from the media during a press conference held Monday morning at the President's Office, as part of a series of regular press briefings.

Responding to media inquiries regarding national efforts to harmonize pay scales and ensure optimal staffing levels within State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), the President stated that the primary objectives of pay harmonization include increasing employees' take-home pay and fostering a stronger work ethic. President Muizzu further highlighted that strengthening the national economy is also a key goal of these reforms. The President noted that as pay harmonization measures are implemented, there are specific cases requiring individual review. He confirmed that relevant authorities have been instructed to identify and address such instances accordingly as the process moves forward.

Furthermore, he noted that efforts to right-size companies—ensuring staffing levels are appropriate for their operational needs—are being conducted in accordance with ethical standards and principles, while also contributing to significant cost reductions. During Monday's press conference, he further assured that these measures are being implemented in a manner that leaves no room for allegations that employees are being dismissed due to political influence.

The President noted that the measures being implemented by the government are part of broader efforts to strengthen the sector. He emphasized that settling the nation's foreign debt is a critical priority, highlighting its direct impact on the individual well-being of all citizens. Reflecting on the current economic landscape of the Maldives, the President further assured the public that the government remains steadfast in its commitment to stabilizing and sustaining the national economy.
