President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Hassan Zareer as the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises.
Government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) announced that the President appointed Zareer to the position on Monday.
Prior to assuming this role, Hassan Zareer served as the Commissioner General of Taxation and the head of the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). In addition to being a qualified Chartered Accountant, Zareer holds advanced academic qualifications in the fields of accounting and finance.
In addition to holding various positions within the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and serving on the boards of several state-owned enterprises, Hassan Zareer has also dedicated many years of service to the private sector.
The Ministry of Finance became vacant following the resignation of Moosa Zameer on Monday.
RaajjeMV understands that Zamir cited health reasons for his resignation. In his letter, he stated that his medical condition requires hospitalization and noted that he was recently admitted for treatment. Zamir had previously undergone surgery in December.
Zameer stated in his letter that his current health condition does not allow him to fulfill the demanding responsibilities associated with the role of a cabinet minister.
Zameer informed local media outlets that despite resigning from his ministerial post, he will not distance himself from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
While Zameer has resigned from his ministerial post, he continues to serve as the chair of the crisis committee established in response to the conflict in Iran.
