Two city councilors from Kulhudhuffushi City have announced their support for Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for Galolhu South, in the upcoming MDP Chairperson election, emphasizing that now is the time for the youth to take the lead in reorganizing the party.
Councilors Mohamed Shaiman and Akbari Mohamed have officially announced their support for Meekail. Shaiman stated that his decision to back Meekail stems from his belief that now is the time to empower a new generation of youth and focus on rebuilding the party.
"I have decided to support Meekail, who has remained steadfast and sincere alongside the party's general members," he stated.
Furthermore, Akbari stated his belief that the MDP can only secure victory in 2028 by becoming a well-organized and disciplined party. To achieve this, he emphasized that sidelining any group within the party is not the right approach.
"For the party to be run in an organized manner, Meekail must be at the helm," he said.
The election for the Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is scheduled to take place this coming June. Notably, the campaign for the election is currently proceeding with intense competition.
