Swearing-in ceremonies for newly elected councilors will be held simultaneously across all islands
The swearing-in date for councilors elected for the fifth term under the Decentralization Act has been scheduled to coincide with the expiration of the previous term, with the first official meetings following the ceremony set to include the election of vice presidents for both the councils and the Women's Development Committees.

The Local Government Authority (LGA) has decided to hold the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected councilors of the fifth local council term, along with the signing of the declaration by Women's Development Committee members, on May 17. The ceremony is scheduled to take place simultaneously across all inhabited islands in the Maldives.
The Local Government Authority (LGA) stated that this date was determined in accordance with the Decentralization Act, based on the completion of the five-year term following the date the current councilors were sworn into office.
During this ceremony, the newly elected local councilors will be sworn into office, followed by the official signing of the declaration by members of the Women's Development Committees.
Following the swearing-in ceremony and the signing of the official oath by all newly elected members, it has been decided that the councils will convene for their first official meeting. The Local Government Authority (LGA) has confirmed that the primary agenda for these inaugural meetings will be the election of vice presidents for the respective councils.
Furthermore, members of the Women's Development Committees (WDC) will proceed with the election of their vice presidents after signing their oaths of office. According to the Local Government Authority (LGA), the position of WDC President is a full-time role.
The inauguration ceremony for the first councilors elected under the Decentralization Act of the Maldives, along with the signing of the declaration by members of the Women's Development Committees, was held on February 26, 2011.
This upcoming event marks the swearing-in ceremony for the fifth term of local councillors elected under the Decentralization Act. The Local Government Authority (LGA) noted that holding these ceremonies simultaneously across all islands in the Maldives is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the country's decentralized system of governance.
