Runoff elections for remaining constituencies scheduled to take place next Saturday
The Elections Commission has commenced preparations for the second round of the local council elections scheduled for this Saturday. While the Commission is currently addressing 170 complaints filed regarding the election, a 14-day window has been opened for any parties dissatisfied with the Commission's decisions to file appeals at the High Court.

The Elections Commission has decided to hold run-off elections this coming Saturday for constituencies where a second round is required following the Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections held on the 4th of this month. These run-offs are necessary due to tie votes and other determining factors.
The Elections Commission shared this information in a special message delivered by the Commission’s President, Mohamed Zahid, prior to the announcement of the official election results. Zahid stated that the elections held on the 4th of this month saw the highest voter turnout in Maldivian history for both Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections. He further noted that all aspects of the electoral process were conducted in a free and fair manner.
Speaking regarding the date for the second round of the election, Zahid stated that voting for the constituencies requiring a runoff is currently scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 18. He further noted that the Elections Commission has now commenced all necessary preparations to conduct the second round of voting for these constituencies.

Addressing the complaints filed regarding the current election, the President of the Elections Commission stated that the National Complaints Bureau has received a total of 170 complaints to date. Zahid noted that the Commission is currently in the process of reviewing the legal aspects of these grievances and providing formal responses to the concerned parties.
Furthermore, Zahid highlighted that every citizen retains the legal right to appeal to the High Court if they are dissatisfied with the Elections Commission's response regarding complaints submitted to the National Complaints Bureau. The President of the Elections Commission added that this window for legal recourse will remain open for a period of 14 days, effective from today.
