An investigation has been launched following reports of a female student being bullied and harassed at Sharafuddin School in Addu City.
A reliable source has informed RaajjeMV that the family of the girl targeted by bullying only became aware of the situation last week. Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the incident, a relative of the victim stated that students had been instructed to bring materials, including lace fabric and cardboard, to school for a project last week.
A source informed this news outlet that while a teacher was absent from the classroom, a male student placed a piece of lace—brought for a school project—around a female classmate's neck. It has also been learned that another male student present at the time was encouraging him to "tighten it further." As the lace was wrapped tightly around her neck from behind, the girl reportedly became distressed and struggled, pleading with them to let her go. According to the source who spoke to RaajjeMV, the student was only able to break free and defend herself after some time. By then, she was in significant pain and left deeply traumatized by the incident.
A source familiar with the matter informed this publication that no teacher was present at the time of the incident, as one staff member was absent that day, leaving the classroom unsupervised. Following the incident, the school contacted the girl's parents, reporting that she was crying after being struck on the arm with a fork.
A reliable source informed RaajjeMV that the parents discovered their child was being bullied after questioning them further upon returning home from school. The matter was subsequently reported to the school authorities.
Some parents have alleged that the bullying case is not being treated with the seriousness it deserves because the child of an influential individual is among the perpetrators. Speaking to RaajjeMV on the condition of anonymity, a parent revealed that on the day of the incident, the victim was struck on the arm with a bangle, causing her pain. The parent further disclosed that these acts of bullying are consistently carried out by the same group of students. This publication has learned that once the matter was brought to the school's attention, the male student responsible for the bullying was reseated further away from the victim. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the school has taken any further disciplinary action against the student.
Incidents of bullying have surfaced at Sharafuddin School in the past as well. The failure to address such issues, particularly in schools with large student populations, remains a major concern for the public, who are increasingly worried about student safety.
