Sodiq wins MDP primary for vacant North Hithadhoo constituency
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially awarded its ticket for the upcoming North Hithadhoo by-election to former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq after he emerged as the sole candidate following the close of the party's primary nomination period. Sodiq secured the nomination without a primary contest, and he will now compete for the seat vacated by Mohamed Sinan in the election scheduled for June 6.

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has announced that former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq (Sobe) will contest the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election on the party's ticket.
The opportunity to contest the primary for the vacant North Hithadhoo constituency seat in the People’s Majlis was opened from April 13 until 2:00 PM this Sunday. However, Sodiq was the sole candidate to apply.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially announced Sodiq as its candidate for the upcoming North Hithadhoo constituency by-election. The party confirmed that Sodiq secured the ticket uncontested, as he was the sole applicant by the deadline for the primary.
Sodiq previously served as the Mayor of Addu City from 2014 to 2019.
The North Hithadhoo constituency seat became vacant after the former Member of Parliament, Mohamed Sinan, failed to settle a proven debt in accordance with a court judgment. Despite losing his seat, Sinan has announced his intention to contest the PNC primary to reclaim the position.
The by-election to elect a Member of Parliament for the North Hithadhoo constituency is scheduled to be held on June 6.
