Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is experiencing a very positive momentum ahead of the upcoming local council elections, Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections, and the scheduled referendum.
Solih made these remarks while sharing observations with RaajjeMV following his recent visits to several islands and cities across the atolls.
The former President noted that the campaign for these elections began after a period of relative political inactivity in the islands, observing a significant shift in the public's spirit compared to when they first started. However, he stated that his recent campaign travels revealed a public eager to reject the current government. He further highlighted that this sentiment was particularly evident in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and Kulhudhuffushi City.
"A momentum has built up. Furthermore, it is evident that the people are eager to say 'no' to the government. The public is now convinced that the time has come to exercise their constitutional rights as a personal responsibility," Solih said.
He also urged the public to cast their ballots as early as possible this time. Furthermore, he claimed that the election has been organized in a manner specifically designed to hinder public participation and minimize voter turnout.
Solih stated that now is the time to work together and strive for progress. He also expressed confidence that the MDP will achieve a very successful result in the upcoming local council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections.
