MDP secures major victory in council seat runoff; next step is to hold the government accountable: Ghafoor
MDP's acting chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, hailed the party's victory in the B. Donfanu Council and Fuvahmulah City's Dadimagu constituency by-elections as a significant achievement. While the ruling PNC lost both council seats in this election, they managed to secure three seats on the Women's Development Committee by a narrow margin.

The MDP's interim chairperson, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that the results of the second round represent a significant victory for the party, and that the focus must now shift toward holding the government accountable.
The second round of the elections was held to elect members for two council seats and three positions on the Women's Development Committee.
The elections are being held to fill the seat reserved for women on the B. Dhonfanu Council, as well as the council seat for the Dadimagu constituency in Fuvahmulah City.
Regarding the two council seats contested, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate secured the seat for Donfanu. The Fuvahmulah seat was also won by an independent candidate who was endorsed by the MDP.
Speaking to RaajjeMV regarding the recent elections, Ghafoor stated that the ruling party faced defeat in both votes held to elect council members. He noted that while the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured the seat for the Dhonfanu Council, the independent candidate who won the Dadimagu constituency seat in Fuvahmulah City was also a candidate endorsed by the MDP.
Highlighting that the election results represent a significant overall victory, Ghafoor expressed his gratitude and extended his congratulations to all members of the MDP.
Ghafoor stated that MDP members remain steadfast and that efforts to hold the government accountable will continue without interruption. He further assured that the MDP remains committed to fulfilling the will of the people.
Furthermore, the second round of voting for Women's Development Committees (WDC) was held for the position of President of the Ha. Kelaa Committee, as well as for committee member seats in Hd. Neykurendhoo and L. Maavah. The People's National Congress (PNC) secured all three seats by a very narrow margin.
