Former Member of Parliament for the Hulhumale' constituency, Ali Niyaz, has stated that the public has not been provided with adequate information regarding the proposed referendum.
Speaking at a gathering held at the MDP party center, Niyaz stated that all party activities will be conducted in alignment with the sentiments and views of the general public.
Niyaz stated that as election day approaches, the public remains inadequately informed about the proposed constitutional referendum. He further noted that the Elections Commission, which is tasked with overseeing the process, is failing to fulfill its responsibilities effectively.

Niyaz further stated that the MDP's pickup rallies and other activities are aimed at raising public awareness on these issues. He added that the public faces a crucial decision in the upcoming election, and therefore, citizens must be fully informed on matters concerning their rights.
As voters head to the polls, they face a critical decision: whether to relinquish their fundamental right to vote by consolidating two separate elections. The MDP has alleged that the constitutional amendment to synchronize the two elections was introduced because the government realizes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will lose the 2028 presidential election, and is seeking to influence the outcome to secure a victory.
