President Muizzu makes changes to committee established in response to Middle East unrest
The ministerial committee established to mitigate the potential impacts of the evolving situation in the Middle East on the Maldives has been streamlined to five members, with Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer appointed as its chair.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has significantly restructured the ministerial committee established to mitigate the potential impact on the Maldives of escalating tensions and conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States in the Middle East, notably reducing the number of members on the task force.
Following this change, the committee's membership has been reduced to five, down from the previous nine ministers.
The composition of this committee was reconstituted during the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, following recent changes to the cabinet.
Minister of Finance and State-Owned Enterprises, Moosa Zameer, has been appointed to chair the newly formed committee. The committee also includes Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam, and Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, Mohamed Saeed.
The other members appointed to the committee include the Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources, Ahmed Shiyam, and the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen.
Following this change, several ministers who previously served on the committee have been removed.
The ministers removed by the committee include the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Islamic Affairs, the Minister of Education, and the Minister of Homeland Security and Technology.
