President Muizzu cannot be defeated by sitting idly: Shathir
MDP National Congress member Shathir Abdul Rahman has strongly criticized the government, claiming that the recent cabinet reshuffle was not done in the public interest. Speaking specifically against the appointment of Heena Waleed to a ministerial position, Shathir urged members of Parliament to withhold their approval for her confirmation. Furthermore, he called on the public to take to the streets in protest to challenge President Muizzu’s administration.

MDP National Congress member Shathir Abdul Rahman has stated that "iron must be used to cut iron," asserting that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu cannot be defeated by remaining idle.
Speaking at a party rally on Tuesday night, Shathir sharply criticized President Muizzu’s recent cabinet reshuffle. He asserted that the sudden removal of certain ministers and the appointment of new officials were not motivated by the best interests of the nation or its citizens. Furthermore, Shathir cautioned the public against expecting any positive outcomes from these changes, stating that the reshuffle was not intended to serve the people's welfare.
Shathir stated that the public has no confidence in Heena, asserting that such an individual is unfit to hold a ministerial position.
He therefore called on the members of the People's Majlis to withhold their consent for Heena's appointment.
Furthermore, in a direct reference to President Muizzu, Shathir remarked that "iron can only be cut with iron," asserting that the President cannot be defeated while remaining seated. He emphasized that the public must take to the streets to successfully remove President Muizzu from office.
The sudden changes to the cabinet might lead the public to believe that President Muizzu is genuinely attempting to reform the nation. However, even today, he has offered nothing but hardship to the people of this country. In this cabinet reshuffle, he has appointed an individual notorious for inflicting some of the greatest injustices upon the most vulnerable citizens of the Maldives. "Iron must be used to cut iron." We cannot defeat Muizzu simply by sitting here. You should not be gathering in this hall; you should be taking to the streets. We must go out and work on the streets to bring him down to size.Shathir Abdul Rahman, a member of the MDP National Congress.
Shathir stated that the party would work to remove President Muizzu from office, mirroring the "Noonekey" campaign previously spearheaded by the MDP regarding the constitutional referendum. He further called upon the public to lend their full support to this movement.
