President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially established the Maldives Territorial Office on Thursday.
The President's Office has clarified that this office operates as a constituent department under the President's Office.
According to the President's Office, this office was established to define the maritime boundaries of the Maldives and to conduct sustainable research and oversight regarding all matters and disputes related to the nation's territory. The President initially announced the establishment of this office during the delivery of his Presidential Address to the People's Majlis on February 5th of this year.
The responsibilities of the Maldives Territorial Office include taking a lead role in collaborating with relevant government agencies and international bodies to resolve disputes and issues concerning the boundaries of the Maldives' territory.
The government has stated that the office will also be responsible for defining the coordinates of the Maldives' official territorial baselines and boundary limits, as well as providing boundary maps and information regarding related instruments.
The President's Office has stated that it is currently making the necessary arrangements to begin the agency's practical operations, including the process of recruiting the required staff.
