President Muizzu’s new cabinet takes oath of office with four new appointments, excluding 10 dismissed ministers
The President has implemented a major cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of half the ministers, aimed at streamlining government operations and aligning services with public sentiment. Under these changes, four new members were appointed to the cabinet and several portfolios were reassigned, a move the government states was driven by recent election results to accelerate the implementation of its agenda.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s newly reconstituted cabinet was sworn in on Tuesday night, marking a significant administrative overhaul following the government’s setbacks in the recent council elections and the public referendum.
During a sudden ceremony held at the President's Office, the newly appointed ministers were sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Maldives, Honorable Uz. Abdul Ghani Mohamed. Following the oath-taking, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu presented the ministers with their letters of appointment.
In forming the new cabinet, several former ministers have been reassigned to different portfolios, while four new members have been appointed. The new appointees are Heena Waleed, Geela Ali, Iruthisham Adam, and Ali Shareef. Additionally, Attorney General Ahmed Usham and Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam have retained their positions in the new cabinet. However, no appointment was made during the ceremony for the post of Defense Minister, which remains vacant.
The newly formed cabinet and their respective portfolios include Moosa Zameer as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Ali Ihusaan as Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, and Iruthisham Adam as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has been appointed as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, while Geela Ali has been appointed as Minister of Health, Family and Welfare.
Furthermore, Mohamed Saeed has been appointed as the Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed as the Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, and Mohamed Ameen as the Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Abdulla Rafiu has been appointed as the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Heena Waleed as the Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Abdulla Muththalib as the Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, and Ali Shareef as the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
These changes follow the resignation of 10 ministers from the government's cabinet. According to the President's Office, half of the 20-member cabinet stepped down to pave the way for the positive reforms the President intends to implement in alignment with the public's will. The office further stated that this decision was made by the President to strengthen government administration and accelerate the fulfillment of pledges made to the citizens.
