History and the Dhivehi dictionary must be updated to define "lies" as "promises" under this administration: Ghafoor
MDP’s interim chairperson Ghafoor, has heavily criticized the current administration, characterizing its campaign pledges as a series of lies. Speaking at a rally in Addu, Ghafoor accused the government of halting development projects and misappropriating taxpayer funds, asserting that there is no justifiable reason for the public to vote for the ruling party in upcoming elections.

The acting chairperson of the MDP, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has stated that under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration, the definitions in Maldivian history and the national dictionary must be revised to equate lies with promises.
Speaking at the "Ummeedheggai" rally held in Addu Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo on Wednesday night, Ghafoor, the Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency, stated that under the current administration, lies have been rebranded as promises. He further remarked that it has now become impossible to distinguish between falsehoods and the truth.
Noting that lies must now be defined as promises in Maldivian history and the national lexicon, Ghafoor stated that the country is being plundered after its national identity was systematically dismantled.
This is the current state of our nation. We are witnessing a group of people stripping this country of its identity and plundering its resources. They possess not an ounce of shame. They are seizing and distributing the people's tax money among themselves. These individuals are operating without fear or any sense of integrity. Is this how a human being is supposed to live? They will claim my language is foul, but I say: stop your own foul, disgraceful, and filthy actions first. Only then can one speak with civility. Only then will there be a reason for polite discourse. When people have been systematically stealing, stripping, and devouring public funds from the very beginning, there is no logic or principle that dictates the citizens must speak to them with respect. They have abandoned the path of humanity and have now descended to the level of animals.Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, Interim Chairperson of the MDP
Furthermore, Ghafoor criticized the government for its failure to move forward with development projects.
Ghafoor stated that development projects in Addu were only carried out during the MDP administration, asserting that the current government has failed to undertake any work. He further noted that the public has seen no progress under the present leadership.
Ghafoor stated that the public is under no obligation to vote in alignment with the government's wishes in the elections scheduled for April 4. He further remarked that government officials should be ashamed to advocate for the "bird" symbol in today's vote.
