The figures reveal a lack of support for President Muizzu
Public opinion reflects a significant shift as over 130,919 citizens have now rejected President Muizzu's proposal, a figure that surpasses the 129,159 votes he secured during the second round of the 2023 presidential election.

The results of Saturday’s local council elections, Women's Development Committee elections, and the public referendum have demonstrated a clear lack of public support for President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Based on the results of the public referendum, more than 130,919 citizens have so far rejected the proposal submitted by President Muizzu. This figure surpasses the 129,159 votes President Muizzu received during the second round of the 2023 presidential election.
Consequently, the results of the referendum held two years later demonstrate a lack of public support for President Muizzu. In this public vote, approximately 70 percent of the citizens have effectively rejected his leadership.
Furthermore, the results of the local council elections held on Saturday reflect the same trend. The main opposition, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), secured the mayoral seats in all five of the country's cities. While the MDP won all council seats in Male' City with the exception of the Vilimale' constituency, President Muizzu's People's National Congress (PNC) failed to secure a single seat on the Fuvahmulah City Council.
In the Women's Development Committee elections, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) secured the presidency of the committees in all five cities across the Maldives. Furthermore, the party also won a significant majority of the remaining seats on these committees.
