Ten ministers resigned to ensure government alignment with public sentiment: President's Office
Ten cabinet ministers have resigned to facilitate administrative restructuring initiated by the President following the government’s recent defeat in a national referendum. These high-level departures coincide with a broader reshuffle of state-owned enterprise leadership, and while the President has formally accepted the resignations, he expressed his gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their dedicated service to the nation.

The President's Office has stated that 10 cabinet ministers resigned on Tuesday to pave the way for the positive changes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu intends to implement in order to align the administration's governance with the will of the people.
Ten ministers have resigned from their posts, including several influential members of the cabinet. The President's Office confirmed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has accepted the resignations submitted by the 10 ministers.
The President has expressed his gratitude to the 10 outgoing ministers, commending their dedicated service and contributions during their tenure.
The 10 ministers who resigned are

- Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel
- Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim
- Minister of Tourism and Environment Thoriq Ibrahim
- Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham
- Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer Ibrahim
- Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare Dr. Maryam Mariya
- Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ibrahim Waheed
- Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar
- Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed
Although the President's Office stated that the ministers resigned to facilitate positive changes President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu wishes to implement in alignment with the public will, the government has yet to disclose the specific details of these changes or the intended adjustments to the administration's operations.
In addition to 10 cabinet ministers, Ali Arif—a cousin of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu—has resigned from his position as Minister at the President’s Office for Presidential Affairs.
The resignation of 109 ministers follows a resounding public rejection of the government in a referendum held to consolidate the local council, presidential, and parliamentary elections. In the wake of this political shift, several heads of state-owned enterprises have also been dismissed or have tendered their resignations.
On Sunday, several heads of state-owned enterprises resigned abruptly, including Farhath Shaheer, CEO of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), and Abdul Matheen, Managing Director of the Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). In addition to these departures, Mohamed Najah, Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Hussain Didi, Managing Director of AgroNet, and Rishwan, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), also resigned from their posts following directives from the government.
