Muizzu cannot secure a second term by impoverishing the public and destroying businesses: Saudulla
Trade Association Chairperson Saudullah Ahmed has expressed grave concern over government policies that he claims are crippling the Maldivian economy and threatening the survival of small businesses. Asserting that the administration's failed foreign policy and rising inflation have led to a loss of public confidence, Saudullah called for the President's resignation for the sake of the nation's future. He further alleged that state-owned enterprises are encroaching on private sector domains and operating in a manner that benefits only a select few at the expense of ordinary businesses.

The Chairperson of the Trade Association, Saudullah Ahmed, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will not be able to secure a second term by impoverishing the public and dismantling the businesses of local entrepreneurs.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Saudulla stated that since President Muizzu assumed office, there has been no visible effort to advance the nation's economy. Saudulla remarked that from the moment President Muizzu took his oath, his actions have appeared focused solely on securing a second term by marginalizing the public. However, he noted that the results of recent elections clearly demonstrate that such goals cannot be achieved in this day and age by subjugating the people. He further alleged that the government is interfering with the country’s fragile economy in a deliberate attempt to dismantle small businesses.
The reality we must accept is that in this day and age, and in the years to come, success cannot be achieved by impoverishing the public, ruining businessmen, or enslaving the citizenry. This was made abundantly clear in the recent election. Consider this: while the Maldives maintains a fragile economy, look at the deliberate interference within the economic framework aimed at dismantling small businesses. Take, for instance, companies like MACL, which contribute significantly to the Maldivian economy. By interfering in its operations, they forced the company to compete directly in sectors already occupied by small businesses. Similarly, MWSC used to provide numerous opportunities to small-scale subcontractors—modest operations employing just three or four people. However, they moved to take over that work directly by hiring their own staff, effectively encroaching on the livelihoods of those small-scale workers.Saudulla Ahmed, Chairperson of the Trade Association
Reflecting on the country's foreign policy, Saudullah stated that while the Maldives relies heavily on international assistance, the current administration's foreign policy has failed to the point where no supporting nations are in sight. He further noted that despite the change in the Finance Minister, the government remains unable to transparently explain the country's economic situation to the public. Saudullah highlighted that with the public facing severe financial constraints and skyrocketing food prices, the people have now said "no" to President Muizzu.
To this day, despite the global crisis unfolding, the Finance Minister remains unable to explain the true state of the nation's economy to the public. However, the citizens are acutely aware of their own reality. They feel the increasing financial strain, the rising cost of food, and the hardships of daily life. It is because they feel this struggle so deeply that they have said "no" to him in this election. If he possesses any sincerity, I believe the most important step he must take now is to resign from the presidency. For the sake of this country's future, for the rights of its citizens, and to ensure a bright future for the children in our schools, he must heed the clear message the people have delivered. A vast majority of Maldivians have declared that they no longer want Muizzu and that he should step down. The results are unmistakable. One of the primary reasons for this outcome is the ongoing effort to dismantle the economic well-being and self-sufficiency of the Maldivian people.Saudulla Ahmed, Chairperson of the Trade Association
Saudulla further stated that for the sake of the nation's future, President Muizzu must resign immediately. He alleged that a significant majority of the public has expressed their lack of confidence in the President, claiming that the administration is focused solely on enriching a few select businessmen, such as Red Wave Saleem. He also noted that while the Maldives is being impacted by global conflicts, state institutions appear to be making no effort to protect the citizens. He warned that the country is facing a very bleak future ahead.
