The no-confidence motion against the interim chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency, Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, has been withdrawn.
Former Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail announced the withdrawal of the case in a message shared with the MDP National Congress group on Saturday night.
The no-confidence motion against Ghafoor was submitted with the signatures of 55 members. The motion, filed last Tuesday, states that the MDP National Congress appointed Ghafoor as the party's interim chairperson specifically to organize efforts to halt the government's major atrocities and its attempts to transition the entire state into an authoritarian regime.
The complaint alleges that the Chairperson, in fulfilling their official duties, has been making decisions based on the directives of external parties. Furthermore, it specifically asserts that these actions were taken in direct violation of the party’s primary governing statutes.
