Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that the public granted the five incumbent MDP mayors another term because they demonstrated strong leadership during their previous tenures.
He made these remarks during an interview with RaajjeTV. Azim highlighted that the spirit of public service resides within the MDP, noting that the only visible progress in the cities has been the work carried out by the councils. He further stated that city councils have achieved these results despite facing numerous pressures. According to Azim, the public desires for powers to be devolved to the councils, granting them full authority to work towards the development of the people.
"There is full confidence that as long as a member of the MDP is in office, public property will remain untouched. It is well known that they will stand against theft and corruption. What we are seeing is the trust placed in MDP mayors," Azim said.
Azim stated that one should only seek re-election after having delivered meaningful services to the public, adding that he chose to contest for the Malé Mayoralty a second time because he believes he has achieved tangible results. He further noted that the decisive majority granted to the MDP demonstrates that the public has recognized and accepted his work.
Azim stated that the public has overwhelmingly rejected the current administration. He further noted that the people have demonstrated they will not remain indifferent to the government's actions.
